About Me
I was born in England to Ulster parents. I was educated in Enniskillen and London, and having taught in several UK schools I became Principal of an Integrated school in the provincial town of Banbridge, Co. Down. Into an old house, bought and converted by parents to a three classroom school, spilled seventy five children in September 1987. Ten years on, a new school for 420+ children was constructed to a ‘state of the art’ design on a green-field site.
When I retired in 2005 there was more than a ten-fold increase in the school’s staff, a full compliment of pupils and endorsements from many famous and notable supporters. I thoroughly enjoyed this, as it reflected my committment to teach children (young and old), regardless of their ability, background or creed.
Poetry has been a means of expression for me personally and a means of facilitating expression in others, mainly children. As a teacher/administrator with some thirty-something years experience many professional and personal events have lent themselves to the pen. In 2008 these were collated and published as an anthology entitled ‘With Love, As Always’.
Recently my work has been more diverse including residencies, readings, poetry workshops and performance poetry. This has included teaching and advising in Ethiopia, Kenya and the Republic of Ireland. To read more about my poetry CV click here.
My aspirations are to travel, teach, consult, inform, learn and bring enjoyment to learning about and composing poetry.
